It is hard not to feel welcome and relaxed as you walk into award-winning Mayura Yoga Centre’s ambiently-lit reception area. Situated on the coast in Southend-on-Sea, overlooking the Thames estuary, it is a struggle to imagine a more idyllic location for a relaxing yoga experience. As the doors close behind you, the underfloor heating swiftly combats the cool British sea breeze. Help yourself to a tea, coffee or coconut water before heading into the state-of-the-art yoga studio with neutral colours and hardwood floors, the perfect backdrop for relaxation. But the pièce de résistance is, undoubtedly, the panoramic view of the ocean.
At Mayura Yoga Centre, the main focus is on ensuring wellness for the mind, body and soul. It does this by providing not just yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi classes but also a list of holistic therapies and mindful practices to offer to visitors of all ages and abilities. As well as a full and varied class timetable it offers regular workshops at weekends, some of which qualify as CPD training days for teachers and other professionals. It is especially proud of its Training Academy which has to date successfully trained nearly 100 teachers - an established training centre registered with Yoga Alliance that’s been running for 12 years. The course is quite unique, leading trainee teachers through the journey of the Eight Limbs of Yoga to include a full spectrum of yoga experiences. It is a very personal journey for each student and the groups are guided and supported continuously throughout by a highly-trained team. Just one hour from London and you could be walking along the beach outside Mayura enjoying space and fresh air before stepping into the tranquil studio.
