Saalt makes premium reusable menstrual cups and has just introduced its new leakproof underwear range. The company also donates 2% of its revenues to help those in period poverty — a true eco warrior for all women

Saalt makes performance period underwear designed to completely eliminate the need for disposable products, absorbing up to three regular tampons worth of period flow.

Using industry-leading technology, Saalt Wear is made with moisture-wicking, antimicrobial layers and a leakproof barrier to help keep people who menstruate dry, comfortable, and confident. It’s also big into helping the environment. Saalt Wear is sustainably sourced, as well as size and skin-tone inclusive. Its first line of sustainable and leakproof period underwear is actually made of 55% post-consumer recycled water bottles.

To ensure that the Saalt Wear line is both safe and effective, the leakproof underwear materials have been third-party certified to be free from PFAS and other toxic chemicals. Materials are also manufactured in a SA8000 certified factory and are OEKO-TEX and blue sign approved, which are internationally recognised standards for making textiles cleaner and more environmentally friendly.

Designed in Paris to offer consumers premium silhouettes and styles, the Saalt Wear collection is available in a range of sizes (XS-XXL) and includes three different absorbent styles and up to four colour variations including:
Leakproof Lace Hipster: Light absorbency. Mid-rise with a touch of cheekiness, this flattering fit combines style and function with soft-stretch European lace, light as air comfort, and barely-there seams. Available in Glacier Blue, Volcanic Black.
Leakproof Mesh Hipster: Regular to high absorbency. This sleek hipster blends breathable sheer mesh and an oh-so-soft, stretchy waistband that moves with you. Mid-rise for a comfy fit at the hip and fuller back coverage for no pad, no problem confidence. Available in Desert Sand, Warm Stone, Rich Earth, Volcanic Black.
Leakproof High Waist: Regular to high absorbency. High-rise meets high-style. This impossibly light and modern high waist style flatters your shape with silky smooth fabric topped with soft-stretch European lace for a stunning fit. Full coverage, full comfort, full protection. Available in Glacier Blue, Volcanic Black.

The company itself was founded by Cherie Hoeger, a mother to five daughters. It all started with a phone call she made to an aunt in Venezuela, where pads and tampons had not been available in stores for years. She immediately thought of her own daughters and what she would do if she found herself in the same situation. Three months later, she was sourcing reusable menstrual pads for hundreds of friends. When she went to source a bulk order of menstrual cups, she couldn’t find one that met her ideal criteria — so she started custom designing her idea of the perfect cup.

The company’s now expanded into the Saalt Wear range of leakproof underwear on top of its reusable menstrual cups, as part of efforts to help people and planet. As a certified B Corp company, Saalt commits 2% of its revenues to donate period care to regions with the most need, and help fund initiatives in menstrual health, education, and sustainability.

And why is the company called Saalt? “The name Saalt represents something that is natural and essential for our bodies. We believe the best approach to period care should be just as natural, distinct, simple, and elemental,” says Hoeger.
