Home Yoga Space: Marina Fung, Felsted, Essex
With some beautiful Om artwork adorning the walls, there's plenty of space to stretch out and feel at ease inside Marina Fung's home studio space. The yoga teacher lives in a village in Essex and had always dreamed of having her own studio space following a yoga journey that dates back some three decades.
"I became interested in yoga and meditation 30 years ago when I was looking for ways to find stillness and calm away from the emotional challenges of being a teenager," she tells OM. "I did my first yoga class at university in Glasgow when I was 19 and I loved it. From then on, yoga became a large part of my life."
In 2000, she was inspired by her teacher at the time to train as a yoga instructor. It marked the next stage of a journey that has taken her far and wide, including to India, the birthplace of yoga.
"I spent a year travelling round the world during which I completed my intensive teacher training at the beautiful Sivananda Ashram in Kerala, India. Since that time, I have practiced and trained with many other wonderful and inspirational teachers."
Fast forward to the present day and she now has her own piece of paradise at home.
"I had always dreamed of having my own space for yoga where I could retreat any time. That dream came true when my home studio was built onto the back of our house 10 years ago. At that time, my husband and I were both working full-time and could afford to build it...so we went for it! I love my home-studio! Now, I use this beautiful space for my own practice and I teach a few classes and relaxation evenings, which sometimes include gong baths."
