Kundalini lawyer
Five years ago, Kevin Gibson was a lot of things — son, athlete, author, first generation college grad and attorney — but most certainly not a devoted yogi and musician. How things can change

Five years ago, Kevin Gibson was working at one of the most illustrious law firms in the USA; a young talent with growth potential earning all the access, accolades, travel, opportunity and pay that being a lawyer could provide. The culture was 24/7 all in, work hard, play hard; if you prove yourself and put in the excessive work, you will be rewarded.
To the family and friends who supported him, and celebrated his success, everything was coming to fruition just as planned.
But Gibson wasn’t doing well, the late nights and anxiety eroding his mental health and sense of self.
“I really wasn’t feeling like myself. I felt helpless and not in control, like life had quelled the unique vibrations that made me, me. I felt stuck and I knew I wasn’t operating at my highest.”
Something had to change fast. He turned down a promotion, left the firm and moved home. Coincidentally, his last day of work was the first day of the Covid 19 lockdown.
“I didn’t know what to do next, so I followed the whispers [of curiosity] and started reading, books like: The Untethered Soul, Egyptian Yoga and You Can Heal Your Life.”
He also started writing, penning two short books, The Greenback Road and The Way Home.
Always a believer in direct experience he wanted to embody the teachings he’d been reading about and headed to India for a Kundalini yoga teacher training – which gave him the discipline, structure and tools to develop a dedicated daily practice and enough inspiration to start attending a local ashram, once home, to deepen his yogic studies.
His daily yoga practice gave him a literal moment to slow down and reflect — to learn to be present and aware, which eased his anxiety. His daily practice became the first and most important part of his day, “a shield to get through” as he calls it.
After creating this new habit, he then attended a retreat centre in Sweden for three months, one month of which was entirely in silence.
And then the music came
Then he discovered music. In the six weeks immediately following the month in silence, Gibson wrote and recorded 21 songs A Capella.
Spiritual songs filled with poetic and inspiring verses about the power, teachings and learnings of the practice. Songs that honour the healing that yoga has given him and that encourage others to get quiet and to uncover the health and creativity that is dormant within. The lyrics and melodies are woven with memories and experiences from his lifetime, as if the silence somehow allowed him to access every reach of his mind.
Who would’ve thought that there was music in the silence? Who would’ve thought he had all this creativity within? Who would’ve thought that he could ever feel this good?
With the 21 songs in hand, he then reached out to an old friend who makes ‘dope beats’ and in 2024, his first album Finding Flow was born — set to be released this summer.
Today, he has regained his physical and mental health and practices daily — both yoga and law — as he prepares to share his album with the world, and to launch a digital platform - Phillip Matador - which helps others tap into the highest version of themselves.
The platform provides a variety of inspiring content and resources to help people create habits for the better, that gives people the confidence to know that they too can find their flow.
The new album ‘Finding Flow’ will be available Summer 2025
