My place

With its rolling woodlands, hills, meadows and secluded bathing ponds. Hampstead Heath is well known as a rural escape from the hustle and bustle of London. The Pergola, on the other hand, is hidden deep amongst the ancient trees of West Heath and remains a secret garden for local residents and accidental visitors. It was built in 1903 by Lord Leverhulme, founder of Unilever, to host extravagant garden parties. Nowadays the faded glory of the pillars and arches provide a serenely beautiful place to meditate and practice yoga.
“In spring, wisteria and vines climb around the trellises, whilst in summer the walkways offer shade and privacy. Whatever the season, it is my favourite place in London to find peace and tranquillity,” says yogini Kiki Morriss.
