OM meets...

Viktoriya Omelchuk.

This month’s cover star is Viktoriya Omelchuk. Here, she tells OM how she found her way to yoga on a journey of transformation and tranquility

How did you first get into yoga?

I first encountered yoga almost by chance. At the time, I was running my own private dance school, immersed in business logistics and the constant pressures of entrepreneurship. As rental costs rose, I needed to make better use of the studio space during the quieter hours. I invited a yoga teacher to fill the early morning slot, and, soon enough, I started noticing something remarkable. People emerged from those yoga classes with bright, glowing eyes and serene smiles. Intrigued by the impact yoga seemed to have on them, I decided to try it for myself. From that very first session, I was hooked. I found myself returning day after day, unwilling to miss even a single class. Yoga gave me a profound sense of peace and flexibility, not just in my body, but in my mind. This passion led me to India, where I earned my RYT certification and began a new chapter as a yoga teacher.

What does yoga bring you personally?

On a personal level, yoga has been a journey toward inner peace and self-discovery. I’ve gained a sense of openness in both mind and body, embracing life with a newfound ease and grace. I love the way yoga has transformed not only how I feel, but also how I see myself and my place in the world.

What is your approach to teaching yoga?

My teaching style is about cultivating positivity, connection and adaptability. I believe that a good yoga class should leave my students feeling rejuvenated, empowered and attuned to their bodies. Flexibility is key — both on the mat and in life — and I encourage my students to embrace where they are each day.

Any career highlights or accomplishments?

Over the years, my career in yoga has brought some incredible opportunities and achievements. Currently, I am recognised as one of the top yoga instructors in Mykonos, as rated by TripAdvisor. I’ve also had the privilege of collaborating with famous global brands such as Swarovski, Range Rover and L’Oréal Paris.

In addition, I established my company, which offers luxury wellness services across the island, including private sessions in yoga, sound healing, meditation and massage, at villas, yachts and hotels. It’s been rewarding to build a team that shares my vision of wellness and provides these exceptional services to our clients.

Tell us more about Yoga Mykonos Lux?

Mykonos is renowned for its luxury and exclusivity, which is why I named my brand, Yoga Mykonos Lux. The island itself symbolises elegance and style, and I wanted to bring that same luxurious experience to my yoga offerings. When I first started on Mykonos, I was new to both the island and the language. But I was determined. Over time, I built my business, learned Greek and established a reputation as the go-to yoga provider on the island. Today, my summer schedule is often booked for months in advance with both returning and new clients.

What are your plans for the future?

Having lived on Mykonos for eight years, my love for the island has only grown stronger. My dream is to combine my passion for yoga with my connection to Mykonos by hosting exclusive retreats here. I want to give people the chance to experience the magic of this place, not only as tourists but through a deeply enriching and rejuvenating experience. I also have plans to expand my retreats to other locations around the world, with Bali next on the list.

In addition, I’m working on a video course of yoga classes for YouTube, allowing people to practice with me from anywhere in the world.

What do you do when you’re not teaching?

When I’m not teaching yoga, I lead an active lifestyle. After the intensive summer season on Mykonos, where I teach up to seven sessions a day, I enjoy mixing things up with other sports — dancing, swimming, tennis and running. And I cherish every moment I get to spend with my daughter, enjoying life together.

What inspires you?

I’m deeply motivated by the transformations I see in my students. Watching them improve their health, alleviate back pain, gain flexibility, and, most importantly, feel more vibrant and alive after each session is incredibly rewarding. I’m also inspired by the loyal clients who recommend me to their friends and family visiting Mykonos, helping to grow our community year after year.

And, of course, this beautiful island itself fuels my passion. Mykonos, with its turquoise waters, whitewashed houses and endless sunshine fills me with energy and gratitude each day. It’s a place where I feel deeply connected, both to myself and to my purpose, sharing the joy of yoga with others.
