Your Bedding Could Help You
Become More Spiritually Aligned

How Bedding Colors and Materials Influence Spiritual Well-being - By Lucy Couser

Reading time: 4 minutes

When you think of things that could keep you more spiritually aligned, the last thing you think of is your bedding colour, material and just your emotions towards them. The thought and research came from my mother, who is not only a very spiritually awakened person who opened up to my world of crystals, mantras and just overall spiritual thinking. I’ve recently been packing and buying new things for my new home so of course new bedding was on the agenda and after much debate and discussion with my partner, a choice was made.

We ended up going for a clay-type colour that was made out of cotton and when I showed it to my mother, she was so happy. When I discussed that my partner picked that one, she said, ‘How funny because pinks are closely associated with the heart chakra. I was intrigued that the colour of my bedding could have anything to do with my spiritual alignment or even just general beliefs so I thought it would be a good opportunity to share what I have found with my research.

How Colour Can Affect Your Spirituality

Colour theory has been around for a very long time and it makes perfect sense that specific colours can peak different emotions, such as red with passion or anger and blue with sadness or calming effects. So it also makes perfect sense that it can have some impact on your spirituality.

Like when my mother went on to discuss pink, opening up our heart chakras made me feel really good about our choice.

Creating a sacred space that you are comfortable in and enjoy being around is essential for not only your mental health but also your spiritual growth. Your bedroom is a place for you to recharge and rejuvenate and having a place that encourages both of these things has been scientifically proven to heal you. The energy within your bedroom significantly impacts your sleep quality if you are a person who sleeps better in a dark room but loves light during the day. Having black blinds, and a comfortable sleep mask is crucial for a full night's sleep.

Feeling great on the inside and your spirituality starts with an environment that encourages those actions and feelings of a stronger connection to your spirituality. But let’s get into more detail about what colours represent in psychology and how they connect with you spiritually.

The Psychology of Colour

Red

Often associated with passion, vitality and, of course, energy from a psychological perspective, in terms of spirituality, the colour red represents grounding, and courage and is connected to the root chakra. Sleeping on red bedding can help you withstand challenges and create some more security and stability in your life. When you feel like life is a bit too much, try sleeping or surrounding yourself with the colour red.

Orange

The colour range is often associated with creativity, enthusiasm and stimulation from a psychological perspective. In spirituality, it is connected to the sacral chakra, which is associated with pleasure, sexuality and creativity, which is interesting in turn with the psychological explanation. This is a great one to have with your partner but if you are looking for some inspiration, you might dream of it.

Yellow

I'm sure we are all aware that yellow is associated with feelings of joy, optimism and intellect. In spirituality, the colour yellow is linked to our solar plexus chakra, which governs the fire inside of you, so if you ever need a kick up the arse, surround yourself with the colour yellow. It is also linked to your vitality, ego and willpower.

Green and Pink

This colour is associated with balance, harmony, and growth. In spirituality, this is connected to the heart chakra (and the colour pink is also associated with this chakra), which, as you guessed, is the representation of love and relationships. So green is supposed to be associated with giving and receiving love, while pink is supposed to nurture unconditional love in a soft way, which I find adorable and will always want these colours on my bed. Placing these colours on your bed could help you and your partner become even closer and encourage these feelings about each other.

Blue

Psychologically, this colour is linked to peace, tranquillity and communication. In spirituality, the throat chakra is the centre of communication, emotion and creativity it is interesting that psychology and spirituality are aligned with this one. Grab the colour blue when you feel like your throat chakra is blocked, which might be when you are struggling to express your thoughts and feelings.

Purple

Symbolises wisdom, spirituality, and intuition. In spirituality, the colour purple is associated with the crown chakra, which brings you closer to your spirituality in a lifting and inspiring way, connecting you to the divine. Not only that but this chakra also gives you a sense of your own digital awareness of everything around you. Adding some blue bedding to your rotation will provide a gateway to help you get closer to your beliefs.

White

It represents purity, innocence and new beginnings, and within the spiritual realm, it is a colour that symbolises spiritual awakening and enlightenment. It is said that both purple and white are linked to the crown chakra.

Black

In psychology, the colour black is meant to symbolise grounding, protection and mystery. In spirituality, this colour is often associated with the root chakra, like the colour ready. Promoting more stability, support and survival.

Colour in Spiritual Practices

Through my research, I found there are so many practices that incorporate colour for various reasons and in very different ways. Here are some examples.

Colour therapy involves using coloured lights to balance energy and promote healing so you could in general buy different lighting (like LED but better) and essentially fill your room with colour at times you need it and while you are doing things such as meditating.

Chakra balancing is another thing that we have discussed today, which uses colour to align and energise the body’s chakra system. Surrounding yourself with a variety of colours and getting rid of the millennial grey in your home is a step towards a happier and more spiritual space.

Meditation and visualisation of specific courses can help manipulate your state of mind and promote spiritual growth. This is supported by psychology but it also makes sense.

Lastly, aura reading is where practitioners can believe that your aura is a light colour that you can see surrounding someone. Being told what your aura is can provide you with unique insight into how you represent yourself and encourage change or consistency in your spiritual relationship.

What About The Materials?

While having the colours that suit the chakras that you identify with the most, there is also an argument for what material bedding can do for you in terms of spirituality, and I found this so interesting.

Linen

This natural material is not only said to be some of the best quality but it’s also so good that it gets better on your skin over time. So while I was happy to hear about its spiritual properties, I wasn’t shocked.

Linen is said to work effectively to suppress pathogenic microflora and bacteria so scientifically, it’s the world's natural healer and medicine. It has a rich history and has been used as a symbol of light, purity and even a display of wealth. I have also been told by my partner that it connects you to the earth the most, like you do with your shoes off on grass so lying in a bed made of linen mimics the same benefits.

Silk

While there is no concrete evidence of silk linking to spirituality, I believe that sensory, connection and comfort are all gateways for people to become more spiritually aligned and further assist in unblocking and connecting. In various cultures, silk is also said to represent purity, strength and wisdom, which can further resonate with spiritual seekers.

It is also said to promote various health and beauty benefits, for example, silk pillowcases are renowned for their hair and skin health.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to things like your bedding connecting you to more spirituality to just to heal you in specific ways I really think colour, material and surrounding yourself with things that make you happy can always guide you easily on your journey.
