Make a lasting difference to the world’s most disadvantaged children through child sponsorship

Reading time: 3 minutes

Children living on the streets of Kolkata, India, are from some of the world’s most disadvantaged communities.

Many come from families who face extreme poverty and lack necessities such as food, clean water and somewhere safe to sleep. Others are forced to fend for themselves and are vulnerable to abuse, exploitation and trafficking.

The Hope Foundation’s HOPE child sponsorship programme makes a real and lasting difference to the lives of street[1]connected children. It restores basic human rights that all children should enjoy and empowers them to reach their full potential.

A growing community of yoga teachers and enthusiasts – inspired to give back to the country that gave the world yoga – are sponsoring street-connected children through HOPE, and also supporting the charity’s Yoga for HOPE campaign.

Yoga teacher Caroline Biddle, who is a HOPE child sponsor, said: “I have so enjoyed watching my sponsored child grow up into a young woman. I have always found the child sponsorship report, which I receive each year, a joy to read.”

One hundred percent of a sponsor's £20 monthly donation is used to secure a child’s education, nutrition and healthcare.

The programme builds self-reliant and well-informed individuals who give back to their communities.

And by tackling societal problems such as child labour and child marriage, sponsorship contributes to HOPE’s vision of “a world where it should never hurt to be a child”.
